I Write Because It Saved Me

There are some stories you tell for survival. Others, you write to be seen.

This is one of both.

I’ve lived enough lives to know that words can wound — but they can also wake the dead.
They can carry you through seasons you were never supposed to survive.
They can remind you who you are when you’ve become fluent in pretending.

And that’s what Pen of Purpose is for.

This isn’t a blog.
It’s not a content strategy.
It’s not a clever marketing funnel wrapped in vulnerability.

This is a reclamation.
Of voice. Of vision. Of the version of myself that got buried beneath what the world told me I had to be just to belong.

I write because when everything around me fell apart — writing gave me somewhere to go.
When my voice was too hoarse to speak, the page let me whisper.
And those whispers eventually roared.

I come from people who survived without being heard.
Whose truths were carried in silence, encrypted in song, buried in bone.
So when I write, I write with them behind me — and with my son in front of me.

Because if I don’t say it, if I don’t document it, if I don’t name it… then who will?

We are not supposed to live lives that are consumed and forgotten.
We are not here to be palatable.
We are here to take up sacred space.

So this is my place to speak with no filter. To process out loud. To say the things I was once afraid would make me “too much.”

Too honest.
Too Black.
Too queer.
Too spiritual.
Too soft.
Too loud.
Too tired of pretending I was okay.

Here, I’m not performing.
I’m remembering.
And that remembering is my revolution.

So if you’re here looking for neatly tied bows and motivational clichés, I’d kindly ask you to exit stage left.
But if you’re here because you’ve ever wanted to scream into a pillow at 2 AM and needed someone to say, “Me too,” — then pull up a chair.

This is my sacred ground.
Where grief meets growth.
Where truth meets tenderness.
Where the weight I’ve carried becomes the ink I bleed.

This is the first of many entries.
Some will come with clarity. Others with chaos.
Some will feel like prayers. Others like war cries.

But all of them will be mine.
And all of them will be true.
